Attorney Child Advocate of the Year Award

Atiya M. Mosley is an outstanding champion and voice for children.  She serves children in the roles of attorney, volunteer, Board Member and community partner.  Atiya worked for many years for Georgia Legal Services, specializing in handling cases involving child abuse, domestic violence and ensuring the safety of children. During her time there, she trained numerous community professionals in obtaining temporary protective orders, which helped protect countless adult and child victims of violence.  Atiya is an active member in numerous community organizations with similar missions and goals in advocating and protecting children, including the local Domestic Violence Task Force, Prevent Child Abuse-Augusta, the Advisory Board for the local Rape Crisis and Sexual Assault Center, and serves as President Elect for the Board of Child Enrichment, Inc. in Augusta.  Through these organizations, she has organized and a program of community safety cards, developed protocols for responding to sexual assault for a community wide collaboration, organized a local conference that brought a national expert to town to train professionals working in response to child abuse, and spoken to numerous middle school children abut Need to Talk, a state hotline where children can seek help for abuse, violence, and suicide ideation.  Atiya also serves as a guardian ad litem for children in civil court proceedings.  She is tireless in her efforts and is skilled in bringing community members together and establishing partnerships to better the lives of children.

 

Atiya is a graduate Hamilton College and George Washington University Law School.  She has been in private practice since January 2003 focusing on family law.
