Leadership Award

Becky Rumer has devoted much of her valuable time and talents to advocate for resources and recognition for the children in state custody who are served at Our House in Columbus, Georgia.  She was instrumental in the success of this local collaborative, which brought non-traditional partners to the table to discuss agency partnerships and children’s issues.  Because of Becky’s refusal to accept “no” for an answer, Our House was developed as a resource that serves children in the sixteen counties of DFCS Region 8.  Since the opening of Our House, no case manager has spent the night at DFCS offices with foster children because there was not a safe emergency placement for children.  This valuable resource would not have been possible without Becky’s vision and commitment to children in the foster care system.

Becky graduated from the University of Georgia and is a Senior Vice President and Director for Columbus Bank & Trust and Synovus Financial Management Services.  She is the Board Chair of Columbus for Kids, Inc. and Carpenter’s Way Ranch and is a past board member for Columbus Regional Medical Foundation, The Family Center, Inc., Junior League of Columbus, Inc., Concharty Council of Girl Scouts, Urban League, and Ronald McDonald House of West Georgia.  She was a foster parent for Muscogee County DFCS for sixteen years.  Becky lives in Columbus with her husband and four children.
