Daily Update February 13, 2015
- Announcement of Family-Based Foster Care Services Act
Dear Ron,
Family-Based Foster Care Services Act
The Foster Family-based Treatment Association (FFTA) is pleased to
announce that U.S. Senators Tammy Baldwin and Rob Portman have
introduced bipartisan legislation that will improve access to
treatment foster care services. The Family-Based Foster Care
Services Act will establish a federal definition of treatment foster
care and a baseline quality standard for this service. A bipartisan
companion legislation has been introduced in the House of
Representatives by Rep. Rosa DeLauro and Rep. Tom Cole. Yesterday
FFTA leaders, a foster and adoptive TFC parent, and twin boys in
kinship care presented testimony at a Congressional Briefing on this
legislation (you can access their testimony below).
The Foster Family-based Treatment Association has lead efforts to
ensure that children and youth that come into the foster care system
with special behavioral health needs and/or medical disabilities, as
well as vulnerable children living with kin, can have access to
quality services and supports in a family-based setting. This
legislation will achieve that.
We will keep our membership updated on the status of this
legislation. In the meantime, see the links below for more
information.
