Legislative Update January 19, 2016

Where Did the Year Go?

It is hard to believe that the 2016 legislative session is here and in full swing!  The link below will be our weekly legislative update that will list all the pertinent bills that we are aware of for providers (some more pertinent than others).  We will add to this listing as the session moves forward.  If you would like additional information on any of these bills and/or would like to testify at a hearing please let us know.  Also, if you do not see a bill that your organization has interest in please let us know so we can add it.

This week much of the attention will be on the budget and appropriation hearings, especially for the supplemental FY 2016 budget.  One of the major issues we will continue to be addressing this year is the need for enhancements to the FY 2017 budget for rate increases for CPAs and CCIs.  As you are aware there has been only one 3% rate increase in the last 11 years.  The Governor’s proposed budget has roughly $75M in child welfare enhancements for out of home services.  This covers a portion of the state taking over the TANF federal matching dollars and the projected increases in children being placed in out of home services (capacity growth).  It does not contemplate rate increases.  If you operate a CPA or CCI please try and attend the FY appropriations hearings (we will inform you as to when they are scheduled to occur).

Hope to see many of you at tomorrow’s Together Georgia Day at the Capitol (9:00am-1:00pm).  This will be a great opportunity to get acclimated to the surroundings and talk with legislators about issues important to your organizations.  Thank you.
