RESIDENTIAL CHILD CARE SERVICES LICENSURE
ORIENTATION MEETING
Intended
Audience: Orientation is for those who are interested in
opening a group home providing 24 hour
residential care to children or starting a
foster care agency--this orientation is not for
day care providers.
Description: The orientation will cover
the current status of child welfare,
opportunities for serving children and
alternatives to group care.
Currently the State has very minimal need for
new group homes. Georgia presently
has more capacity in residential care than it
has children to serve. While the State is
still granting licenses for Child Caring
Institutions (group homes, emergency shelters,
second chance homes, and outdoor adventure
programs) they are not granting new contracts
for placement of children in these facilities.
In other words, a program may become licensed
but the state will not contract with you for the
placement of children. Georgia is
encouraging the development of home and
community based services.
