Administration for Children and Families, Region IV--Atlanta:

Dear Colleague:
It is my pleasure to invite you to attend a “Strengthening Families: Community
Stabilization and Healthy Housing Summit”. This event is being convened through
partnerships among the Green City Development Group and the Interagency Healthy
Communities Task Force, U.S. Departments of Housing and Urban Development,
Health and Human Services/Administration for Children and Families, Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, the Center for Working Families, and the Morris
Brown Research Institute. In addition, the Georgia Departments of Community
Affairs and Human Resources, U.S. Departments of Labor, Energy, Education,
Veterans Affairs and Small Business Administration, Luther Judson Price High
School Alumni Association and other State, public and private organizations have
joined in this effort. The Summit is designed specifically for faith and
community-based organizations, strong families’ coalitions, youth and fatherhood
programs, public and private organizations, healthy marriage community
coalitions, schools, colleges and universities, Head Start and Community Action
Agencies, State and local human service agencies, youth and families, and
practitioners from various disciplines. This event will be held on Saturday,
August 29, 2009, 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Atlanta Civic Center, 395 Piedmont
Avenue, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30308. On-Site Registration is 7:30 a.m. until 9:30
a.m.
The overall purpose is “To empower and educate families and communities to
utilize the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act of 2009 stimulus funds and
other resources”. The goals are to:
• Strengthen the role of community organizations in the economic recovery and
poverty reduction.
• Promote responsible fatherhood and healthy families.
• Strengthen families/organizations by educating them about purchasing homes,
preventing foreclosures, loan modification and mitigation, weatherization
programs, green economy, jobs/training, homelessness, preventive health care,
avoiding health hazards, exploring, and sharing resources.
There is a special session designed for the faith-community based organizations
on effective grant writing. This session is designed for existing organizations
that want to learn about accessing funding resources, and/or new organizations
wanting information on writing grant applications for federal, public and
private funding. I hope you will be able to join us, for your perspective will
add a valuable dimension to this important discussion.
