Welfare Watch - May 15, 2009 - Judge Sammy Jones Dies in Plane Crash
Today WSTV reported that Judge Sammy Jones was killed in a plane crash in Alabama. The plane went down in a hay field about three miles southwest of Auburn around 11:30 am. Of the four people on the plane, two survived the crash. One survivor was able to make a phone call reporting the crash.
"Sammy" Jones was a Juvenile Court Judge in Fulton County. He was a passionate advocate for children who came before his court. In his advocacy, he would often use the stories of these children. His concerns were always about their welfare. He spoke out when parents, communities, state agencies and the courts did not step forward to protect children from harm or endangerment.
Everyone knew that his interests were for the child. He was a popular speaker at conferences and fund raisers.
Judge Jones will be missed. Today we lost a tremendous resource for the children of Georgia.
