Precollegiate Program for Youth in Foster Care June 16-23, 2011 Announcement from the Fanning Institute at the University of Georgia: The Fanning Institute at the University of Georgia is pleased to announce the first CollegeBound program for foster care youth! Youth who attend the program will have the opportunity to spend 5 days and 4 nights on campus at the University of Georgia. Please forward to relevant organizations and individuals as the distribution is not comprehensive. While in Athens, these youth will have the chance to experience campus life, including: spending the night in the dorms and eating meals at the dining hall, learning about what it takes to get to college and how to succeed once they are in college, learning about financial aid opportunities available to youth in foster care, having fun and participating in movie night, a ropes course, and swimming at Legion Pool. Who is eligible to participate: Rising 10th and 11th graders who are in state custody What are the requirements: Interested youth must complete and application (attached, or found at the Fanning Institute website - http://www.fanning.uga.edu and obtain a letter of recommendation from an adult Agree to participate in all of the events throughout the week There is no cost to the students who participate in this program. Attached to this message you will find a draft agenda, an application for consideration, and a flyer describing the program. The deadline for applications is May 1st.
