Together Georgia Welcomes New Member, Georgia Baptist Children's
Home and Family Ministries
Established in the 1800's, Georgia
Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministries (GBCHFM) offers a
variety of programs for youth ages 6 - 17. GBCFM
responds to referrals from The Department of Family and Children
Services, Department of Juvenile Justice, Multi-Agency Alliance for
Children, Community Services Boards, parents, church
pastors, physicians, psychiatric hospitals, schools, juvenile court
judges, and other social service agencies.
GBCFM has three campuses across
the state - in Baxley, Meansville and Palmetto. In addition to the
campus locations, GBCHFM has group homes in local communities positioned
across the state. These homes have the capacity to serve five to
eight children in a single home atmosphere. Community
group homes include Angel's House in Coweta County, Alice's House in
Carroll County and The
Friday-Johnson Community Group Home, a division of Bloom Our Youth,
Inc., in Fayette County.
The campus locations also offer
community counseling centers. These centers are recognized as
Georgia Medicaid/Mental Health Core Provider that primarily serve
indigent children, adolescents, and their families. The
centers seeks to serve Georgia children, adolescents, and their
families in need of mental health and addiction services as defined
by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental
Disabilities (DBHDD) These
centers
offer a full range of coordinated mental health and community
support services including:
• Individual
Counseling
• Group Counseling
• Family Counseling
• Community Support
• Psychiatric Services
• Nursing Services
• Medication Evaluation
• Case Management
• Behavioral Assessment
Other specialty ministries include:
- a maternity home for unwed teen mothers
(Palmetto)
- DAC cottages for children with higher behavioral needs (Palmetto)
- maximum
watchful oversight program (Baxley)
- residential
care to troubled adolescent boys through a unique farm-based
treatment program. In addition to serving residents, the horses are
used in a unique equestrian treatment programming for people with
disabilities (Good Shepherd)
- residential recovery program for girls
(12-17) who are victims of commercial exploitation (Victory
Program)
- a
summer residential camp for youth ages 8-21coping with varying
developmental disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome,
Attention Deficit Disorders, Learning disorders, Autism, brain
injuries and/or other developmental delays (Camp Hawkins)
GBCHFM served a total of 1,006
residents and clients in 2013. They are accredited by the Council
on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, Inc.
It is an honor to welcome Georgia Baptist Children's Home and Family
Ministries to our membership.
TOGETHER GEORGIA is the new name of
our state’s most venerable organization for child and family
services providers: the Georgia Association of Homes and Services
for Children (GAHSC). Since its inception 50 years ago, GAHSC has
been a tireless champion of children all across the Peach State.
