Program Overview: Attendees in this training will be presented the core components of an effective TeleMental Health practice. 

Objectives of the Program: 

  • Participants will understand the definitions, provisions, and requirements set forth by GA Composite Board (Rule 135-11-.01, TeleMental Health) and the Office of Health and Human Services, HSS (HIPAA and High-Tech Act of 2010, Final Omnibus Rule of March 2013), and the technical guidelines set forth by NASW, LPCA and EAPA.  
  • Grasp the competencies necessary for providing ethical practice within today's high-tech world including the use of cellular telephones, emails, video conferencing and related technologies. 
  • Comprehend the importance of confidentiality of our clients' protected health information, PHI, to insure maximum security while minimizing exposure to litigation for outdated practices and/or "willful neglect". 
  • Identify specific client groups that may necessitate the use of TeleMental Health services. 
  • Know the indications and contraindications of client selections for possible provision of Distance Counseling services based on their diagnosis, technical skills and other important factors.  
  • Integrate important improvements in clinical protocols including but not limited to informed consent, client forms, releases of information, use of encrypted and unencrypted emails and other important procedures for an effective and ethical practice.  
  • Comprehend the components of the ethical decision making process, including stage of ethical decision making, models of ethical decision making, and the ethical decision process worksheet, as applied to the ethical use of Telementall health services. 
  • Apply course content to the participants' clinical skills through the use of the training materials in discussions, exercises and role plays based in the course content and materials.

Presenting a one-day, six-hour ethics conference in advanced supervisory ethics. This conference will address 1) the ethical complexities of providing supervision via teleconferencing, including technical and security issues related to the protection of client privacy and confidentiality under HIPAA and the Hi-Tech Act of 2010, and 2)  a detailed overview of privacy concerns and solutions in the era of e-communications so that supervisors are prepared to instruct their supervisees in the legal and ethical use of smart phones, email and other emerging modes of communication in ways that meet guidelines under HIPAA and the Hi-Tech Act of 2010. This program has been designed to provide 3 hours of training for LCSW and LMFT supervisors who wish to supervise via teleconferencing, six hours of supervisory ethics to meet the ethics requirements towards the CPCS for professional counseling supervision, and the ethics requirements for all licensees seeking relicensure. NEW  - Understanding the Health and Mental Health Needs of Children in Foster Care
Together Georgia Provider Alliance in collaboration with The University of Georgia J. W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development  offers the following training.  Amerigroup is Georgia's provider of health and mental health benefits for children in foster care. By analyzing claim data, Amerigroup has identified the most common health and mental health diagnoses for Georgia's youth. This session will focus on those common diagnoses, symptoms and manifestations, as well as treatment strategies with an emphasis on real world solutions. Amerigroup representatives will be on hand to answer questions and troubleshoot Medicaid issues that providers may be experiencing.
