Georgia Association of Homes and Services for Children

         About GAHSC

Conceived as voluntary problem solving group with only five children service providers over 40 years ago, the GAHSC has evolved into 150+ program member association dedicated to supporting those who care for children who are at risk of abuse and neglect.  GAHSC carries out its mission through advocacy, lobbying, education, training, technical assistance and providing opportunities for networking.  It has become the voice of children and those who protect and care for them. Each day the GAHSC remains true to its stated goal of providing leadership and resources to the dedicated agencies and professionals serving our State's at-risk children and their families.

The members agencies of GAHSC provide a wide range of children services including:

  • Family Preservation and Support
  • Education Programs
  • Emergency Care
  • Family Foster Care
  • Children's Homes
  • Community Group Homes
  • Therapeutic Treatment Programs
  • Adoption
  • Maternity Programs
  • Outdoor Therapeutic Programs
  • Psychiatric Hospitals
  • Independent Living and Aftercare

GAHSC is determined to give our members the resources they need to ensure no at-risk child "slips through the net." A member investment in GAHSC provides:

  • Advocacy and lobbying on behalf of child welfare agencies with continued emphasis on promoting legislation supporting our mission.
  • Representation at key state, legislative and volunteer committees involved in regulation, policy making and service delivery to at-risk children
  • Access to valuable and timely information regarding Georgia's legislative process, including state department budgets and legislation impacting member operations.
  • Comprehensive information on national and local issues related to at-risk children.
  • The opportunity to network with industry peers and assume a leadership role in statewide forums.
  • Professional assistance in training and certification of member staff.
  • Assistance with funding resources.

"Having been a member of GAHSC since 1967, I've known that the organization has always had a little extra something, an openness which comes from a common purpose and commitment of its members - that of advocating for troubled children and their families and of developing the services in which to serve them."

Beverly O. Cochran, Jr., Administrator
United Methodist Children's Home, Decatur

The agencies of GAHSC stand together as we forge ahead into the next century of care. Many others, including past and present members of the State legislature, know our work makes a difference in children's lives.
