Making a Difference for
Youth in Foster Care

A woman was walking along a beach filled with starfish. As she walked, she would stoop down, pick one up at random, and throw it back into the ocean. A man came upon her and asked why she was bothering with throwing some back when there were so many – how could it possibly make a difference? She picked up another starfish, threw it back into the ocean, and said it made a difference to that one. (Recited by Geraldine Warren at NCS Volunteer Recognition night.)

GAHSC has its sights on making a difference for youth in foster care. Not everyone has the time or ability to become a foster parent, and yet nearly everyone has a skill, helping hand, or simply a good listening ear to share side-by-side with those who are caring for children. Helping others comes in many forms and little things can make a big difference. The GAHSC Volunteer Bank is a child welfare network where childcare providers and caring volunteers join hands. The Volunteer Bank pitches requests for specific needs and volunteers make the catch.

You can make a difference! Let us help you make the catch.
