CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
"Framing the Future of Our Children:
Constructing Healthy Families and Communities"
Please join us as the Georgia Association of Homes and Services for
Children begins planning for its 2006 Annual Conference. This year’s
conference will be held on May 10 - 12, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency,
Savannah GA.
This year’s conference theme is "Framing the Future of Our Children:
Constructing Healthy Families and Communities". The theme is
organized around key concepts at the forefront of professionals and
organizations serving our youth:
Foundation: a firm foundation
including safety and staff training opportunities;
Supports: well designed supports
including residential services, community-based programming,
family/community services, and therapeutic
pathways;
Roof: a sound roof to protect and
cover all that we do, this includes collaboratives, private and
governmental agencies, political, legal and
ethical standards.
All of the activities, workshops and keynotes will demonstrate that each
part of what we do contributes to the creation of healthy families,
communities and positive outcomes for our youth. The architecture of
change has many components; our goal is to provide our conference
participants with new tools and design plans to enhance and improve
their practice and opportunities for youth.
We invite you to share your expertise in the form of a presentation to
this year’s attendees, which will include administrators, clinicians,
direct care staff, support staff, and state personnel from the Division
of Family and Children Services, the Division of Mental Retardation and
Substance Abuse, and other agencies. We will welcome presentations on
such subjects as:
Resources for children, families and caregivers (grants,
educational services, transportation, family-focused models of services,
admission through reintegration and aftercare etc.) Please include
measurable outcomes in your abstract.
Specific populations, such as youth preparing for independent
living, children who exhibit sexual behaviors, working with children
with loss and grief issues, children impacted by domestic violence,
children and families in rural areas, non-compliant and aggressive
children, etc.
Skills development, such as counseling methods, group
facilitation, crisis intervention, play and other experiential and
recreational therapies, alternative therapies, team building, first aid
and CPR, family involvement, family centered work, methods of
effectively managing children without using physical restraints, and
tools for de-escalation.
Increasing organizational efficiency, including how to
effectively recruit and retain quality staff and volunteers, board
development, continuous quality improvement, routine/preventative
maintenance, fundraising, strategic planning, agency liabilities, agency
accreditation, professional certification, agency best practices,
computer software skills, human resources skills, components of
financial management, effective business writing, communication, and other topics relevant to agency
administration.
Ethics; Cultural Competency
Public/private sector collaboration and innovative approaches to
service delivery.
Personal and professional wellness including stress control,
time management, spirituality and relaxation techniques.
Family Preservation/In-Home Services, including
Comprehensive Child and Family Assessment (CCFA), assessment techniques, working with families
facing substance abuse issues, etc.
Qualitative/Quantitative Methodology Models of Outcomes
In exchange for sharing their expertise, primary presenters will
receive complimentary admission to the conference. Co-presenters who wish to attend the conference may do
so at the regular rate. Travel, hotel, meals and miscellaneous expenses
will not be reimbursed. If you are interested in presenting, please
