Posted 3/13/2002 - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) - Eliada Homes, Inc. Asheville, North Carolina  Founded in 1903 to serve “the least, the last and the lost”, Eliada is located on a 200-acre campus in the mountains of western North Carolina.  Eliada is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to serving the needs of children and families by giving them suppport and assistance as they work toward building a strong stable future.  Accredited by the Council on Accreditation and by the North Carolina Division of Mental Health, Eliada provides Level III and Level IV residential treatment for 27 high-risk adolescent boys and girls and a Level II independent living residence which accommodates nine additional young people.  In addition, the agency supports a day treatment program; a comprehensive recreational therapy program including therapeutic animal stewardship; traditional and therapeutic foster care; day care, after school and summer programs for special needs and at-risk children; and a small in-home family preservation program.

With operating revenues of approximately $6 million and a staff of 150, Eliada provides a continuum of programs and services to approximately 350 children and families each year.  Most of Eliada’s referrals come from the Division of Mental Health and the Division of Social Services.

Three years ago, Eliada made the decision to transition its licensure from the Division of Social Services to the Division of Mental Health in anticipation of statewide reforms in the delivery and reimbursement of mental health services.  That transition required extensive renovation of facilities and the hiring of additional staff to meet new standards.  As a result, the organization experienced a significant operating loss in FY2000 (July, 1999 to June, 2000).  That loss was supported by the agency’s endowment which now stands at $1.2 million.  The agency is operating at break-even currently but expects to incur a loss of $200,000 on $6.8 million in operating revenues in FY2002.  Eliada bills Medicaid directly and supports a state-of-the-art information system.  The agency has a strong commitment to continuous quality improvement.

The Position:  Reporting to a 20-member Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer for Eliada directs all operations of the agency and is responsible for stewardship of the organization’s financial resources; strategic leadership and direction of the agency, subject to approval by the Board; and the assurance of the highest quality of care in the services provided.

The dramatic growth and evolution of the agency and the continuum of services it offers has led the Board to recognize the need for new leadership.  The decision of the state to withdraw from the direct provision of mental health services provides great opportunity for Eliada to partner with providers and payers in the public and private sectors to meet the needs of the children and families it serves.  The new CEO will be a principle-centered leader, a strategic thinker, an innovator and an entrepreneur who will work with a dedicated staff to build a shared vision for Eliada’s future.
