November 08,
2011 - Public Comment on Maternity Homes Regulations The Office of Residential Child Care, the licensing arm of DHS, has called a public hearing on their proposed regulations for Maternity Homes. These regulations have not been reviewed in more than two decades. Best practice for the care of pregnant young women and their children has moved far beyond assuring that young mothers get their iron through weekly servings of liver. The hearing will be on November 15th at 10 am in the Board Room of DHS. Oral testimony is limited to 10 minutes. Written comments may be submitted no later than November 24th to RCS@dhr.state.ga.us or mailed to ORCC, 2 Peachtree St., Suite 28-234, Atlanta Georgia 30303-3142. The proposed rules substantially amend the maternity home rules that were in effect on July 1, 2009 when the licensing, monitoring, and regulation of maternity homes was transferred from the DHS Healthcare Section to ORCC. The proposed rules expand the categorization of maternity home to include both basic maternity home and second chance home program types. The proposed rules limit oversight and licensing to services provided to residents through twenty-one years of age. The notice of public hearing, a summary and the full rules can be found at:
