Provider
Watch - October 17, 2011 - RBWO Standards: Food Storage Guidelines
From: Office of Provider Management (OPM)
Hello Everyone,
According to Room, Board, and Watchful Oversight (RBWO) standards, the
nutritional needs of children must meet the guidelines established by
the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA). As providers care for
children, meal planning and preparation play a vital role in meeting
their overall well-being needs. All meals for children must meet the
guidelines established by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and
USDA.
The Office of Provider Management (OPM) has become aware of some issues
associated with freezing food items. Please note that milk can be frozen
up to 3 months if stored before the expiration date. Once milk is
removed from the freezer, it can be refrigerated for use only up to one
week after removal. You must put a sticker or other notation on the
container indicating the date it was removed from the freezer and the
7th day following, which is the expiration date.
The Consumer Guide to Food Quality & Safe Handling, which can be used as
a reference to help understand the quality of food and its safe
handling, is available on GA+SCORE at
www.gascore.com/eblastdocs/Food_Keeper_Brochure_101311.pdf and in
the Resources section on the Quick Links menu. If you have any
questions, please feel free to reach Dr. Eddie Gordon at 404-232-1474 or
edgordon@dhr.state.ga.us.
