Welfare Watch - August 1, 2012 - Nationally, Foster Care Numbers Continue to Decline

The Federal Children's Bureau released the Preliminary Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) data estimates as of July 2012. 

 

The report indicates that the number of children in foster care continues to decline, (400,540 children in 2011 compared with 406,412 children in 2010).  This decline represents a 20% decline since 2007.  The number of children waiting to be adopted on September 30th also continues to decline (104,236 children in 2011).

Child Wellbeing Report - The Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics has released their "America's Children:  Key National Indicators of Wellbeing, 2011.  This reports looks at several statistics indicating a child's wellbeing such as poverty rates, stable family situations,  food security, drug use, educational progress and environmental factors.
